Sara Toering

Sara is an attorney who cares deeply about supporting individuals and families that are building home and seeking to leave legacies that honor their loved ones and communities. Sara is also a daughter, sister, wife, and mom (2 kids, 1 dog). She brings her critical experience as a family member into her legal service to folks entering the estate planning process, and to those walking through the probate process upon the loss of a loved one. Sara’s service in the estate planning and probate practice developed out of learning from neighbors and neighborhoods seeking stability in the absence of excellent estate planning and supported probate work—when and where families struggle to address assets like real property when a loved one passes without a plan in place.

Sara has over 20 years of professional experience working with people and organizations seeking to make transformational and socially just change. She is the owner and principal of SJT Partners, a Georgia-based law and consulting firm that serves organizations and leaders around the country seeking to impact federal, state, and local policy focused on land, housing affordability, and equitable neighborhood and community development. Sara is currently a Senior Fellow with a national non-profit, the Center for Community Progress. Before her work with Community Progress she spent several years in practice at a large Atlanta law firm. Sara began her career as a tenant organizer in Brooklyn, New York.

Sara received a J.D. from Emory University School of Law, a Master’s in Divinity from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, and a B.A. from Calvin College.

Sara and her family are members of Central Presbyterian Church in downtown Atlanta.
